DIMAPUR, Mar 16: As a step to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, the  Neiphiu Rio Government in Nagaland has ordered the closure of educational institutions in the State, both Government and private, from March 17 till April 12, 2020.
The order also said that “non-essential official gatherings such as seminars, workshops, conferences etc. are to be deferred during the period”. However, ongoing Board/Council/University examinations will continue as per schedules, according to the order.
In a notification, the State Government of Nagaland also directed all entry points and check-gates into the State to be manned and screened.
The Nagaland State Government will also form a core committee to deal with COVID-19 related matters.
In view of the COVID-19 outbreak, the State Government of Nagaland also decided to put on hold official functions and programmes involving big gathering.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed its concern over the rise of the pandemic Covid-19 all over the world.
"The party appreciated the Government for taking up its effort for the preventive measures in the State and feels that more and stringent effort is required to check and prevent that not a single case of Covid-19 is reported from our State. The virus which is infecting human races like a wild fire all over the world should be tackled collectively," the NPF added.
The party then appealed the Government to install a Covid-19 test centre even in Nagaland as Guwahati test centre is the only nearest centre available for the Nagaland, "which is difficult for the citizens of Nagaland to avail the facility for its distance and other reasons".
The NPF then said that it felt it necessary to point out that the Dimapur Railway Station should be minutely monitored "as thousands of visitors travel every day and hundreds of people are coming to Nagaland through the station, which is very vulnerable".
