IMPHAL, Mar 18
Manipur’s NGO Ya All has recently helped in the formation of first transgender football team in India.
As per reports, the team comprises of Nick (captain), Chaki (vice captain, striker), Puja (goalkeeper), Silleibi (goalkeeper), Nellie (mid-fielders), Max, Thoi L, Sanathoi, Lem ( striker), KK, Lala (defender), Christina, Thoi S and Miller.
The football team was launched on March 8 this year.
The team’s captain Chaki said that it is quite difficult for transgender players to play sports separately with male and female teams as they often face social stigma.
Expressing his happiness over the formation of a separate football team for the transgenders, Chaki hoped that separate teams for transgenders will be formed for other sports soon.
He also said that their team wished to be a part of different football tournaments under the transgender category.
Ya All’s founder Sadam Hangbajam said that the team was quite happy after its official formation.
Formed in 2017, Ya All has been working for the upliftment of the LGBTQ community. NORTHEAST NOW
