Racial abuse of NE people: NEFIS submits memo to MHA

NEW DELHI, Mar 24
Taking serious note of the increasing cases of racial abuse against North East people amidst novel coro-navirus, the North-East For- um for International Soli-darity (NEFIS) has submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of Home Affairs for appropriate actions.
Among the many cases, it may be noted that a recent incident where a Manipuri girl in Delhi's Vijay Nagar area was spat on by a person was widely reported in media. She had alleged that the man riding a scooter spat on her and called her “corona”.
Highlighting that the cases of racial abuse against the North East people in Delhi has increased since the novel coronavirus outbreak, NEFIS in its memo- randum also recounted another incident on March 3 where two students from the region were called corona-virus and attacked by six men near Delhi University campus.
Demanding strict actions against persons indulging in racial attacks, NEFIS demanded that district admin- istrations should be directed to ensure safety of people from North-East.
