Census 2021 postponed

NEW DELHI, Mar 26: Owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the first phase of Census 2021 and updating of NPR, which was to begin on various dates decided by the State/UT Governments beginning from April 1 this year and various related field activities, have been postponed.
A notice issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) pointed out that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown has also been declared by many State/UT Governments and moreover the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued advisories for various precautionary measures, inclu- ding social distancing.
As such, Census 2021 (which was scheduled to be conducted in two phases, namely House listing & Housing Census during April-September this year and Population Enumeration during February 9 to 28, 2021), as well as the updating of NPR, will be postponed.
