Curfew extended in East Khasi Hills district

Shillong, Apr 19 : The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills district, Matsiewdor War Nongbri has extended the curfew currently in effect throughout the whole district till 6 am of April 26.
“This is being done to put in place preventive and mitigation measures to identify and take more stringent steps so that the COVID-19 pandemic is contained, reduced and eliminated in East Khasi Hills district and Meghalaya,” Nongbri said in an order issued on Sunday.
Invoking provisions under Section 144 CrPC read together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 the District Magistrate has promulgated curfew in the whole of Municipal area, whole of Cantonment area, all areas under Mawlai block including census towns, all areas under Mawpat block including census towns, areas under Mylliem block from Umshyrpi bridge up to 7th Mile, Upper Shillong, Madanrting, Mawblei, Laitkor, Nongkseh, Umlyngka, Lawsohtun, Mawdiangdiang, Diengiong and Siejiong.
However, the curfew restrictions will not apply to security forces, medical teams on duty, wholesale and retail pharmacies, police and armed forces, Fire & Emergency service, MeECL & Power Grid, Food & Civil Supply department, FCI, Public Works department, Public Health Engineering department, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department and Meghalaya Directorate of dairy Development, Shillong Municipal Board and also the Sanitation Division of Shillong Cantonment Board.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate has also passed an order prohibiting the assembly of five or more persons in public areas and premises beyond the individual households, the operation of public and private transport, the operation of major markets and commercial establishments, movement in public places without masks and also spitting in public places.
However, this order will not affect the arrangement of fair price shops, identified wholesale traders and identified local retailers including grocery and essential shops, vegetable, fruit, meat and confectionary shops which shall open as per a schedule which will be released from time to time.
