CCpur, Apr 3: The Village Authority of Suangdoh, Suangdoh sub-division, Churachandpur has appealed the State Government and authorities concerned to trace the people who burnt about 400 acres of the village’s forest area on March 28, and booked them as per the law of the land.
A public notice issued by VA secretary Pausuanthang alleged that some unidentified people believe to be hunters set the forest on fire at four different locations within the village land.
The fire that engulfed good acres of forest and horticulture land was doused after 5 days by the rain that poured on April 2, it added.
Seeking the intervention of the Government to trace the culprits, the notice said alleged that hunters in their desperate attempt to make a catch may have resorted to sett the forest on fire.
Besides the 400 acres of forest land, the fire also annihilated horticulture farmlands of the villagers and their makeshift tents, it said. Horticulture crops including pineapple, banana, yongchak (parkia) and oranges were among the crops that were burnt to its roots.
Several sources have claimed that people in hoards are headed for the interior villages to hunt wild animals due to the ongoing lockdown.
