Amidst the 21-day complete  lockdown due to corona- virus, a couple from Kak-ching who had sold off land/properties to cover medical expenses of their daughter is facing immense hardship in Delhi.
Kshetrimayum Olivia, daughter of Ksh Hiramani and Ksh Tondon of Kakching Sumak Leikai, had underwent hip replacement surgery in 2016 and as her condition didn't improve, she along with her parents had moved to Delhi for treatment at AIMS in 2018 and underwent a second surgery the same year.
Olivia and her parents have been staying in a rented room in Munrika, South Delhi. She is bedridden and requires another surgery (hip) at AIMS which will cost around Rs 5 lakh, said a representative of UNIKAS, who said she (Olivia) had approached MSAD (Manipur Students' Association Delhi) for help.
"I had my first hip replacement surgery in 2016 at Advance Hospital, Imphal and we had to sell our land and property to cover the medical expenses. But unfortunately my condition didn't improve much and we had to move to Delhi for further treatment at AIMS," said Olivia who now requires a third surgery after the second one at AIMS.
"My father used to work at a restaurant but as he doesn't understand Hindi well, he was fired from his job. My mother is working as a dishwasher in a North East hotel to make ends meet, cover monthly rent and my medical expenses.
We are facing immense hardship now," she said asking for all possible help.
With Delhi under lockdown due to coronavirus, her mother is no longer able to earn even bread money.  The family is in distress and need immediate assistance, said one UNIKAS representative who informed that the association, MSAD and Manipur Faculties in Delhi have written to Chief Minister N Biren for immediate assistance.
In the representation submitted, the associations have appealed the Chief Minister to provide all possible assistance, essential goods, aid medical treatment and issue PMJAY card to the family to help them get better medical care. Meanwhile, many well wishers from Kakching and elsewhere in Manipur have come out to donate.  Those willing to help the family may contact UNIKAS (9718547565) and MSAD (8837361951), said the UNIKAS representative.
