CCpur police arrest 2 for extortion

CCpur, Apr 4: The Churachandpur police have today apprehended two people for serving extortion notice to an individual, said a statement issued by Amrita Sinha, SP Churachandpur.
Based on their input, the district police team led by Additional SP (LO) and Additional SP (Ops) under the overall supervision of the SP, today conducted surprise raids on suspected locations to trace the alleged UKNA functionaries who served the extortion notice.
During the raids, two people identified as Paokam Haokip, (53) of New Kungpi but presently residing at Tuibong, and Jammang Haokip (44) of Paikholum-Leimata, also residing currently at Tuibong have been arrested from K Lhangnom village, said the statement.
A case under section 400/384/34 of the Indian Penal Code was slapped on the duo.
Meanwhile, the SP Amrita Sinha has issued a video message to the people of Churachandpur requesting them to stay at home and stay safe.
The SP appealed the Churachandpur's populace to follow the guidelines issued by the Government.
Only one person per family should come out at a time of necessity or coming out to buy essentials, she requested.
Crediting the public for their support so far, Sinha said the only way to stay safe from the onslaught of the current pandemic is to break the chain.
'The inconveniences we face today are temporary but the damage which COVID-19 would do will be permanent,' she asserted.
