These figures and testimonials of beneficiaries are proof of the impact of the Garib Kalyan Yojana. Nageshori Devi from Kumbi, Bishnupur District has got Rs 500 in her Jan Dhan account through DBT. Apart from this, her family of 4 members got a total of 20 kg of rice. This assistance from the government has been of great help for woman like her as her means of earning has become very limited after the lockdown. L Khomdonbi Devi from Top Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East was happy to share us that her Jhan Dhan account was credited twice with Rs 500 each through DBT. She received the 1st instalment in the middle of April and she received the second instalment a few days ago. Apart from this, her family has got a total of 25 kg of rice from the government under the scheme. With very limited source of income, and being a woman, her worry about ways to provide food for her family increased after the lockdown. But because of PMGKY assistance in the form of monetary help and food grains her worries were greatly reduced.
Geeta Devi from Kakching Khunou lives with her husband and child. Her husband is a daily wage earner with very limited source of income after the lockdown. But because of the timely and generous intervention of the government her family received 15 kg of rice and other items from the government. She is also very thankful to the government for depositing Rs 500 in her Jan Dhan account. This financial assistance came as a life saver for her family as it helps her meet the needs of the family. All these experiences shared by beneficiaries are examples of the success of PMGKY in caring and helping the poor and especially the women and in helping the nation fight COVID-19 pandemic. PIB
