Lockdown guidelines to continue in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, May 17: The Government of Nagaland on Sunday said that “all existing guidelines with regard to the lockdown in all parts of the State will continue to remain operative till issuance of fresh guidelines”.
The order was issued by Chief Secretary Temjen Toy and came even as more and more stranded people are returning to Nagaland.
Till date, shops, except hardware stores, are allowed to open from 9 am to 2 pm from Monday to Saturday in the State. Hardware shops are allowed to operate from 5 am to 9 pm in the State’s commercial hub Dimapur since May 11.
Meanwhile, police personnel are seen every day on the streets of Kohima, Dimapur and other towns in Nagaland enforcing the lockdown. A total of 1,144 cases of lockdown/curfew violations have been recorded in Nagaland till May 15. Violators were also fined and booked under relevant Acts, said an official source on Sunday.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 related measures are underway in various parts of Nagaland.
A co-ordination meeting on preparedness of quarantine centers for stranded people from outside Nagaland was held on May 16 at Changtongya Dabashi Court under the chairmanship of SDO (C) Moa Kumzuk Tzudi under Mokokchung district, according to a DIPR report.
 The report said that 10 beds have been arranged for medical staff, 20 beds at Government High School Changtongya B, 10 beds at Government Middle School Longchara and 10 beds at GA rest house Changtongya town. Meanwhile, in pursuance to the Chief Secretary order issued on April 20, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur district, Anoop Khinchi has notified strict ban of gutka, tobacco etc and prohibition of spitting in public. The DC Dimapur has cautioned that failure to comply with the order, legal action will be liable to be proceeded as per Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In the same line, Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant has also banned the sale and consumption of paan, gutka and tobacco products in the district. In an order, the DC also stated that spitting in public places and institutions under Tuensang district is strictly prohibited as a preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 infections. Failure to comply with the order shall attract legal action under Section 188 of the IPC and under the relevant sections of the National Disaster Management Act, 2005.
