Shillong, May 18: With the last Covid-19 active patient testing negative for the virus for the second straight time, Meghalaya is now free from the pandemic, the State Government informed on Monday.
“Meghalaya has no active cases. Therefore from the Government side we declare that we don't have any single active case," Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed during his daily briefing.
It may be mentioned that the patient, a 30-year old woman who had tested positive for the virus on May 9, was one of the 181 primary contacts of the first Covid-19 patient (L) Dr John L Sailo  Ryntathiang who succumbed to the virus.
Director of Health Services (DHS) Dr Aman Warr said that since she was already under quarantine when she tested positive health authorities took her samples within a week of the detection.
When asked whether the State can now be officially categorised as  a green zone, the Deputy Chief Minister said that this is a process that has to be taken up with Centre.
The State Government has also appreciated the frontline workers for their services.
“Their contribution towards serving the people of the State is appreciated by the Government,” Tynsong said.
