'Industry status' granted to Sports in Mizoram

AIZAWL, May 22: As part of its strategy to boost the area of sports in Mizoram, the Zoramthanga government has granted ‘industry’ status to sports in the state. This decision was taken during a cabinet meeting on Friday afternoon.
According to Mizoram Sports minister Robert Romawia Royte, this was an important move of the state government.
In fact, earlier Mizoram Sports and Youth Service department had made this proposal to the state government to grant sports an industry status.
With this, the Mizoram government will now start preparing measures to “take forwards sports in a more systematic and sustainable manner,” said Robert Royte.
While lauding the Mizoram government for the decision, Robert Royte termed today’s development as “historic and unprecedented”. He then expressed hope that the move of the Mizoram government will “usher in rapid as well as large scale development in various disciples of sports in the state”.
Royte also expressed hope that m many private companies will invest in sports activities in Mizoram soon.
The Mizoram Sports minister then said that the decision of the state government to grant "industry" status to sports is an ample proof that the present state government is all for the improvement of sports in the state.
