DIMAPUR, May 28: Nagaland reported 9 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the total count of the disease to 18 in the State. All the 18 cases are active, reports NNN.
According to Nagaland Health Minister Pangnyu Phom, 6 COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Dimapur and 3 from Tuensang on Thursday morning. All of them are returnees from Chennai. They are under various quarantine centres.
Meanwhile, after much deliberations and consultations, the Nagaland Government has decided that all the returnees will be quarantined in Dimapur and Kohima before getting tested for COVID-19. The returnees will be sent to their respective districts “only after conducting the COVID-19 tests and after obtaining the results”.
According to an official source, State Government officials concerned held a meeting on Wednesday evening chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on the COVID-19 issue and took this decision.
Meanwhile, the Home Department has “directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to inform the status of tests of the returnees to the Kohima and Dimapur District Task Force on time for the districts to make travel plans accordingly”.
The source also said that those district administrations sending returnees to their respective districts and the corresponding districts should engage in smooth co-ordination for better handling of the situation.
