AIZAWL, May 27: Mizoram is likely to extend the ongoing lockdown beyond May 31. This information was hinted by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Wednesday. The likely move of the Mizoram Government is prompted by the fact that many stranded people continue to return to the State in large number from various parts of the country. Another factor for the likely extension of lockdown in Mizoram has been that the number of COVID-19 cases continues to sky-rocket in the country. Those States neighbouring Mizoram, especially Assam and Manipur saw a huge jump of COVID-19 cases.
Zoramthanga, however, said that final decision will be taken only after views from the doctors and other experts in the field are taken and assessed.
Meanwhile, to meet the demand of the unfolding situation in Mizoram, Zoramthanga said that guidelines and protocols will be amended with time so that no lapses occur with regard to the measures on COVID-19 control being taken up by the State Government.
