IMPHAL, May 28: Even as the number of COVID-19 positive cases shot up by 11 during the last 24 hours to take the total tally of active cases to 50, the State Government has been mulling about converting UNACCO School, Meitram as a COVID care centre.
With Chief Minister N Biren in the chair, a high level meeting was held this morning at the Chief Minister’s bungalow and the meeting discussed about converting UNACCO School, Meitram as a temporary COVID care centre.
Apart from high ranking Government officials, the meeting was also attended by representatives of UNACCO School, conveyed one Health Department official. For treatment of COVID-19, there are seven beds and 28 beds respectively in the intermediate wards of JNIMS and RIMS.
The two hospitals have 40 beds each in the treatment blocks while Churachandpur district hospital has 10 beds for treatment of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Health Department has initiated necessary process for opening isolation wards with 30 beds each in all the district hospitals.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 11 persons including two females tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours. As such, the total number of COVID-19 active cases have reached 50.
While seven persons were tested positive at RIMS, four tested positive at JNIMS and they have been put in the COVID care centres of the two hospitals.
Even though all the 11 COVID-19 positive persons  are stable, all necessary measures have been taken up.
Five of them belong to Thoubal district ( returned from Delhi), two each to Tengnoupal (Pune) and Churachandpur districts (Chennai), one each to Kakching (Delhi) and Imphal West (Delhi).
Seven of them returned from Delhi, two returned from Pune and two other came back from Chennai recently.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positive man from Khurai Khomidok tested negative for COVID-19 yesterday. As such, he was discharged from JNIMS today. Nonetheless, he would remain under quarantine for 14 days, said JNIMS Director Dr Th Bhimo.
He said that some other COVID-19 positive persons may be discharged from Churachandpur district hospital tomorrow. So far, five persons have recovered from COVID-19 in the State.
Amid the news of more people testing positive, one good news is the report that the 23 days old child from CCpur who tested positive along with her mother on May 16 is now in a stable state.
