IMPHAL, May 29: NPF Manipur unit president Awangbow Newmai who was inducted into the Council of Ministers today said that Ministers/MLAs alone cannot bring socio-economic and political growth in Manipur.
He categorically stated that the elected representatives must work in close coordination with the public to bring development in all aspects of life.
Speaking to media persons at his Lamphelpat official residence after the swearing-in ceremony, Awangbow said that people should not lay the entire responsibility on the Government alone when it comes to any issue  of the State.
MLAs and Ministers including the Chief Minister have their own duties and responsibilities. Likewise, people too have big roles in bringing all-round development in the State, said the newly inducted Cabinet Minister.
“It is not yet clear what assignment would be given to me but I would discharge my duties sincerely, irrespective of the assignment given to me by the Chief Minister”, he vowed.
He said that he would not differentiate the hill people and plain people or among the communities while discharging his duties.
Saying that Chief Minister N Biren has been paying special attention to hill areas during the last three years, Awangbow remarked that three years is too short to address all the grievances and aspirations of people.
“Tamei Assembly segment which I represent is one of the remotest places of Manipur and it is still very backward in terms of road infrastructure, educational institutes, health care facilities etc”, Awangbow said.
Nonetheless, one SBI branch has been opened at Tamei at the initiative of the Chief Minister and the Government has been working to open one UBI branch at Tousem, he said.
“There are many among the ruling MLAs who are more qualified and eligible than me to be inducted as Cabinet Ministers. I would like to convey sincere gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren and his entire team for giving an opportunity to serve the people after leaving aside all those qualified ruling MLAs”, Awangbow continued.
He also conveyed gratitude to leaders of the Central Government, NPF president, MP Dr Lorho Pfoze, MLA colleagues and the people of Manipur, particularly the people of Tamei AC.
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the newly inducted Cabinet Minister said that the State Government took all possible precautionary measures in advance.
The State Government is still working very hard and all the positive cases would recover soon, he exuded confidence.
He then appealed to all the people not to discriminate or stigmatise people who have returned home after staying in quarantine centres. He also hailed healthcare workers, police, CSOs and drivers for their key roles in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
