IMPHAL, May 28: A Single Bench of the High Court of Manipur has granted time to file counter affidavit to seven MLAs in the disqualification case and fixed June 10 for further hearing.
The order was passed by Justice Kh Nobin during a hearing of the seven disqualification cases filed by Congress MLAs against seven MLAs-Saitu AC MLA Ngamthang Haokip, Lamlai AC MLA Ksh Biren, Wangjing-Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen, Kakching AC MLA Yengkhom Surchandra, Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Bira, Wangoi AC MLA O Lukhoi and Singhat AC MLA Ginsuanhau.
The affidavit was filed on the charge that the seven MLAs who were elected on Congress ticket have been supporting the BJP Government.
During the hearing today the respondent counsels prayed to grant 3 weeks times for filing counter affidavit. The prayer was objected by the counsels appearing for the petitioner on the ground that the respondents are buying time so that the election to the Rajya Shaba can be held.
After hearing the submission of the both parties, the Court granted time for filing counter affidavit and fixed June 10 for further hearing.
