Thoubal, May 29 : Animals rescued by different individuals across the State were released to the wild today with the help of various organisations and some have been handed over to the officials of Forest Department.
One Gokhale Hirom, born to Golen Hirom of Heingang Makha Leikai rescued a Barn Owl on May 25 and the same was released today at a safe location of Heingang Ching. The rescued owl was handed over to the Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) before it was released by the rescuer personally.
Meanwhile, a baby slow loris was rescued by Warepam Chanda Chanu, daughter of Warepam Sarat Meitei of Yairipok Bamon Leikai, from near a roadside tree when she was out for a morning walk.
The slow loris was handed over to JCCWB before it was handed over to Thoubal Forest Division for further care and rehabilitation.
Yesterday, a pregnant deer was also rescued by people of Heirok Part-1 Heitup-Pokpi Mamang Leikai while the animal was entering a residential area. The deer was handed over to Heirok Police Station before it was picked up by a team of Thoubal Forest Division and JCCWB. The team then released the deer at a safe place of Langol Reserve Forest.
In the meantime, a team of JCCWB members, staff of Thoubal Forest under the aegis of DSP (OPS) Thoubal, A Khelendro seized 14 bird traps and rescued 6 birds from Sangaiyumpham Mayai Lambi near KVK Thoubal Office today. The birds were released latter and the confiscated traps were handed over to DFO Thoubal.
