The Government of Mizoram will open inter-state border with Tripura within the next few days’ time as it has become a matter of necessity, reports NNN.
It has been over a month now that all the entry points to Mizoram, except at Vairente and Bairabi along the Assam-Mizoram border, have been sealed following the coronavirus issue. Mizoram shares inter-state boundaries with Assam, Manipur and Tripura and also a 722 km unfenced international borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Given the situation, the Mizoram police has stepped up further measures to protect state borders and maintain law and order in the state. Reports said that more than 2,500 policemen are maintaining round-the-clock vigil to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. The reports added that 15 senior officers are tasked with contact tracing and a total of 1,776 policemen have been deployed in at least 182 duty posts across the state exclusively for law and order.
According to an official source, the Mizoram border with Tripura will be opened at Kanhmun so that commodities can be transported. A medical team will be deployed there and a disinfectant chamber will be set up. These necessary things will be done first and then only transporters will be allowed to pass.
Meanwhile, the new lockdown guidelines of the Mizoram Government said public transporters within the State will be allowed with 50% sitting arrangement. “The transporters will ply on alternate day based on ‘odd-even’ registration number system. The guidelines further said that the assembly of more than 5 people is prohibited.
Anyone violating the lockdown prohibitory order in Mizoram will now be given “exemplary punishment”. In this regard, the Mizoram cabinet had approved an ordinance on Saturday as the State Government takes stringent measures on the COVID-19 issue.
