IMPHAL, May 30: The High Court of Manipur has taken up a suo motu criminal contempt case against Additional SP NAB (Narcotics and Affairs of Border) Th Brinda and fixed June 1 for hearing.
The High Court took up the case following the spat of comments on Facebook after Th Brinda posted "undermining" comment directed against the Court regarding release of  alleged drug kingpin, former ADC (Autonomous District Council) Chairman Lhukhosei Zou on medical ground.
The suo motu case was registered by the High Court against the lady officer for her "failure" to respect the decorum of the Court during the bail hearing Lhukhosei Zou on May 21.
Special Judge ND&PS, A Noutuneshwari Devi had granted Lhukhosei Zou three weeks bail (till June 12) on execution of PR bond of Rs 20,00,000 with two sureties of same amount for undergoing Cholecystectomy (gallbladder surgery) and prohibited him from leaving the State without prior permission of the Court.
The Court during the hearing had lashed at Additional SP NAB Th Brinda for "threatening" a witness while examining. The Court had observed "The manner in which the Additional SP NAB Manipur acted in the Court while examining the witness was very unfortunate and in my opinion, it seems that the lady police officer fails to respect and observe the decorum of the Court and it might be due to lack of supervision and instruction from higher officers of the Manipur Police Department."
Following the bail hearing, Th Brinda had posted comment on her Facebook wall allegedly condemning and criticising the Court. The All Manipur Judicial Officers' Association had also filed a complaint against her with the Cyber Crime Department for posting "unethical comment" against Special Judge ND&PS Manipur on Facebook on May 23.
A Division Bench of the High Court comprising of Justice Lanusungkum Jamir and Justice Kh Nobin will hear the contempt case on Monday (June 1). The High Court will be represented by N Kumarjit Advocate General High Court of Manipur and assisted by P Tamphamani.
