AR, BSF plant saplings

IMPHAL, May 31 : Somsai and Chassad Battalion of Ukhrul Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a tree plantation drive at Poi, Awangkasom, Chassad and remote villages of Kamjong district on Saturday.
The tree plantation drive was conducted with an aim of contributing to the 'Green Drive' of our country, fighting global warming and its impact on climate change and presenting a better environment for the next generation, said a statement of IGAR (South).
A total of 1980 saplings of locally available flora which includes teak, pine, mulberry, guava, banana among others were planted during the drive, it said and added that the attendees agreed to carry forward the initiative and contribute towards increasing the green coverage in Ukhrul.
The Assam  Rifles endeavour to contribute as much as possible to the ‘Go Green’ initiative and will continue to organise such activities which help in maintaining ecological balance and conserving the environment, it added.
On the other hand, a mass plantation drive was conducted at  the Subsidiary Training Centre (STF),  BSF CCpur campus on the theme 'My Earth, My Responsibility'.
A total of 500 saplings including fruit-bearing trees were planted. The saplings include; 100 bottle brush, 100 gulmohar, 50 leihao, 50 bamboos, 50 tairel (cedrella toona), 50 parkia chinensis and 100 silver oak saplings.
Inspector General STC BSF CCpur DK Tripathi, along with officers and all ranks participated in the event.
The saplings were provided by Sh N Ganesh, IFS, District Forest Officer CCpur.
The plantation was carried out maintaining social distance.
