Shillong, May 7: The State Government of Meghalaya is in touch with the Centre to allow stranded students and individuals including migrant workers of Meghalaya outside North East to travel in special flights or trains to reach the State, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed on Thursday.
“The government under the leadership of the Chief Minister (Conrad Sangma) has taken up this matter with the Government of India. He is in touch with the Home Minister, the Railways Minister and the Minister of Civil Aviation. We are putting pressure on the Centre to provide us a special flight or trains especially for our friends staying in different places within India and outside the North East,” Tynsong informed during his daily briefing.
Meanwhile, Tynsong also informed that the State Government has decided that students and other individuals stranded outside North East who can arrange transportation on their own can return to Meghalaya from May 11.
He also appealed to such stranded citizens urging them not to lose hope.
“Please be patient with us. We are trying our best and we will keep doing that and I would personally request all of them wherever they are to please cooperate with us and bear with us. We will never leave you alone wherever you are,” Tynsong said.
