IMPHAL, Jul 6: Educational institutions should not conduct any examinations amid the COVID-19 pandemic as students have not attended classes for over three months now, asserted P Bankimchandra, State president National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Monday.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at its office at Congress Bhawan, BT Road, P Bankimchandra said that students are also hit hard by the lockdown as almost half the 2020-21 academic year is over without proper classes.
Conducting examinations now is not advisable as it possesses a great risk of increasing COVID infections in the State, he said and appealed to the State Government and departments concerned to promote students, especially 1st and 2nd-year students in colleges and universities for this academic year.
Certain states such as Rajasthan and Punjab have already announced to promote students without conducting examinations, the State president continued and demanded the Manipur Government follow the same procedure for the welfare of State's students.
Moreover, Bankimchandra also requested the State Government and departments concerned to arrange a special means to promote the final year students too without an examination so that their academic career is not affected by the lockdown.
Further appealing to private schools of the State not to charge fees from students during the lockdown period, he suggested the authorities concerned of private schools to seek help from the Government if providing salary to teachers without charging a fee is unfeasible.
He also urged all concerned to refrain from conducting any competitive examinations for the moment.
