Hearing adjourned

IMPHAL, Jul 6 : The Division Bench of the High Court of Manipur hearing the writ petitions filed against the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and disqualification cases filed against three Congress MLAs has adjourned the hearing till tomorrow after Solicitor General representing Speaker prayed for more time today.
In the hearing of the cases conducted via video conferencing, the Division Bench comprising Justice Lanusungkum Jamir and Justice Ahanthem Bimol accepted the prayer of the Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta who was representing the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Counsels representing the petitioners also attended the hearing.
Mention may be made that the petitions against the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker were filed by ex-MLA Thanga AC of Tongbram Robindro; ex-MLA of Lamlai AC, Kshetrimayum Biren; ex-MLA Kakching AC Yengkhom Surchandra and ex-MLA Kumbi AC Sanasam Bira who were recently disqualified on June 18.
Meanwhile, the MLAs facing disqualification cases under the anti-defection law are O Lukhoi (Wangoi AC), Ginsuanhau (Singngat AC) and Ngamthang Haokip (Saitu AC). The cases against them were filed by Congress MLAs Keisham Meghachandra, Surjakumar Okram and K Ranjit.
