IMPHAL, Jul 6: Students of Primary and Upper Primary level have been distributed rice for 83 days under the Mid-Day Meal scheme.
As the rice has been distributed uncooked, the cost of cooking sanctioned by the Central Government would be distributed to students, sources informed.
Even though schools have been closed on account of the COVID-19 lockdown, there is a strict instruction to ensure that Mid-Day Meal rice is delivered to school students, the sources said.
The total number of students covered by Mid-Day Meal scheme in Manipur is 1,69,803. Out of them, 1,32,461 children belong to Primary level while 37,342 belong to Upper primary level.
While Primary level children are served 100 gm of rice each per day, Upper Primary level students are given 150 gm of rice each per day.
After Mid-Day Meal rice is delivered to schools, students or their parents come to schools to collect their share of rice. COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing norms are strictly maintained while distributing rice at schools, said the sources.
As the rice has been distributed uncooked, the cooking cost would be distributed to students.
Rice has been distributed to children for 83 working days. As per calculation based on these working days, each Primary level student would get Rs 412.51  and each Upper Primary level student would be given Rs 618.35 as cooking cost.
The cooking cost would be distributed to children as soon as it is released by the Government, said the sources.
