Senapati, Jul 7: Even after the Branch Manager, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) had issued a notice stating that the bank has not received any order from the Government to help students purchase smart phones by crediting monetary incentives in their IPPB accounts, many students with their parents from different places of the district have been storming to the Post Office, Senapati to open accounts since the last two weeks.
With classes cancelled due to nationwide lockdown and the Education Department resorting to online classes, many parents in the region facing financial problems cannot afford phones to attend the online classes.
On contacting staffs of the Post, no one had any idea how the rumour promising students Rs 5,000 started.
The office cannot deny anyone from opening an IPPB account (for Rs 100), however they are not authorised to transfer money to the accounts as they have not received any intimation from higher authorities so far.
The office staff mentioned that the report is not reliable where the Government is crediting monetary incentives to help students purchase smart phones and teemed it as fake.
Such rush based on similar rumour is also reported to occur at different locations of the State.
In this regard, the branch manager, IPPB, Senapati has appealed not to travel during this time to open such accounts as people are risking not only their lives but their family, society and the general public at large.
