IMPHAL, Jul 8
Requesting to reconsider the move of reopening Khwairamband Keithel, a lup called  'Khwairamband Nupi Keithel, Sinpham Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup' has appealed to all vendors of the market to be a bit more patient and bear a little longer until the COVID-19 crisis subsides.
The lup in a statement maintained that the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted a wide range of activities globally including major markets in the State. To curb and reduce the menace, the Government has been adopting policies and extending lockdown from time to time for the safety of all.
The current situation in the State is very grim as the number of COVID cases continue to rise unabated, said the lup while lauding the efforts of the frontline warriors in containing the spread of the disease.
However, it will not be ideal to re-open the Khwairamband Keithel and carry out activities on rotation basis in this critical situation, the statement continued while requesting all concerned to bear with the Government's measure for a bit longer and to resume the activities when the situation has subsided and under control.
The lup also urged the State Government to act on 'terms it agreed earlier' and assist around 6 thousand people who rely on the market for their sustenance and livelihood but have been left helpless due to the closure of the market for more than three months.
