IMPHAL, Jul 8 : With Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurating the Rapid Antigen Detection Testing Centre at Jiribam through video conference today, rapid testing has started at the district which has become an area of concern following detection of COVID-19 among numerous police and VDF personnel.
The results of the tests conducted so far are yet to be announced as certain protocols have to be observed before the results are announced, according to sources from the State Health Department.
At the moment, the situation at Jiribam is uncertain with many raising concerns that the virus may have spread amongst people who have no travel history.
Stressing this concern and anxiety, a reliable source said that there are high suspicions that four persons who took the rapid antigen Covid test have returned positive results. The details however are yet to be ascertained.
On the other hand, Health Officials today inspected the Covid Care Centre to be opened at the Model School at Harinagar.
Additional Director of Health Services and spokesperson Dr Shasheekumar Mangang in a statement said that the State has received 1500 Rapid Antigen Testing  kits from the ICMR and 300 kits have been despatched to Jiribam.
Five more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 at JNIMS in the last 24 hours, said the Additional Director and added that of the five, one is a male while four are females and they are all from Senapati. All the five have been admitted to the COVID Care Centre, Senapati.
The recovery rate has reached 55.25 percent and the total positive cases now stand at 1435. Of this, 642 are active cases while 793 have recovered.
In the last 24 hours, 14 persons at CCC Meitram, one at CCC Kamjong, one at RIMS and 4 at JNIMS have recovered and have been discharged.
