The Arunachal Pradesh Abotani Community Confederation (APACC) has applauded the State Government’s decision to bring the State under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India further strengthening Article 371 (H) on par with Article 371 (A).
While addressing reporters, Taba Taku said that a positive move by the State Government for re-amendment of the Statehood Act will add more security to the protection of indigenous people.
“In line with the Government decision, we would also like to request the State Government to move the Center to further strengthen the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, 1873 to ensure absolute protection to the tribal people of the State,” Taku said. The Sixth Schedule deals with provisions for administration of tribal areas in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram and seeks to safeguard the rights of the tribal population through the formation of Autonomous District Councils. Arunachal Pradesh bordering Bhutan, China and Myanmar fall under the Fifth Schedule that deals with the provisions related to administration and control of scheduled areas and scheduled tribes. Article 371 (H) has special provisions in respect of the governor and the total seats in its assembly.  TNT Bureau
