COVID-19 claims two more

IMPHAL, Sep 18: The State’s COVID-19 death toll has reached 52 after two persons died at RIMS and JNIMS during the last 48 hours.
Sources informed that a 79-year old man from Churachandpur died at JNIMS at around 9.30 pm yesterday. Apart from being COVID-19 positive, the man was also suffering from diabetes. A 38-year old woman from Thoubal district too succumbed to the virus at RIMS.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 177 people including 64 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Raj Medicity, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Jivan Hospital, Babina Diagnostics, Jiribam, Senapati and Chandel.
Of the 113 civilians who have been test positive, 31 belong to Imphal West, 37 to Imphal East, 20 to Thoubal, nine to Churachandpur, six to Senapati, one to Kakching, three to Kangpokpi, two to Chandel, one to Ukhrul and one to Tengnoupal. 103 of them have no significant history of travelling outside the State.
Meanwhile, 90 people have been discharged during the last 24 hours from RIMS (5), RD Wing (11), CCC UNACCO (14), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (32), CCC Jiribam (7) and CAPF (21) after they were found COVID-19 free.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 8607 (general population 6681, Central security personnel 1926).
It includes 1926 active cases (general population 1579, Central security personnel 347) and 6629 discharged cases (general population 5053, Central security personnel 1576).  
The recovery rate as on Friday is 70.01 per cent.
While 75 males and 35 females were tested positive, 18 COVID-19 patients were discharged following discovery yesterday.
Meanwhile 19 residents of Nagamapal Paonam Leikai and 14 of Singjamei Chongtham Leikai tested positive for the contagion in the last 48 hours.
Out of 178 samples subjected to rapid antigen test in Thoubal, 23 were found infected by the contagion.
