CCpur, Sep 18 : The Churachandpur police has reportedly made considerable progress in cracking the daylight ATM Heist at Churachandpur with signs that there could be a larger conspiracy involved though it still falls short in pin pointing who exactly committed the crime.
Three employees of WSG detained by the police have revealed that cash meant for ATMs exceeding Rs 2 crores have been siphoned off in the past five years.
Cash to the tune of Rs 20 lakh have also been recovered from one of the three accused, it added.
It is also said that whatever have been exposed till date may just be the tip of a bigger conspiracy as involvement of more officials from the Cash Replinishment Agency - WSG, has been established by the police during the course of investigation.Incidentally on the day Arambam was reportedly shot and looted , there were only three members out of five, to transport and load the huge cash in ATMs located across the town. Moreover, Arambam who was working as the gunman with WSG was alone inside their vehicle-a Bolero, when he was reportedly attacked. It also came to light that the directives of RBI for managing cash activities have been flouted during the entire events surrounding the heist and there could very well be a reason for the same, said a source.
Meanwhile, a 38 year old man who was picked up by the district police on September 8 in connection with the case but released on PR Bond the following day has been found dead in the bathroom of his house on September 17 night with white foam coming out of his mouth.
Police sources identifed the deceased as Huidrom Sanjit Singh (38) s/o (L) Huidrom Rajen of Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai, Laipham Siphai, Imphal East under Heingang PS. The cause of his death will be known only after his post mortem report comes out, said the source.
