IMPHAL, Sep 18: The Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has said that the student body, in any condition will not let anyone exploit the natural resources of Manipur.
The statement was made by the president of SUK, Dhanakumar Ningthouja on the sideline of the charitable programme to distribute edibles at Glory Children Home in Thamnapokpi in line with the SUK's 9th foundation day celebration held today.
Saying that SUK has learnt that the State Government had signed MoUs with outside firms and companies to carry out extensive mining of minerals abundantly found across the State and the mining works are on the pipeline to start soon, he maintained that the due processes relating to the mining work should be withdrawn and terminated at the earliest.
Warning of ill consequences, he also said that SUK will work together with like minded organisations to protest the mining activities and asserted that the State Government should bear responsibilities of any bad outcome if the activities go ahead.
The members of the student organisations also handed out edibles and other items for the inmates of the Thambal Children Home in Awang Khunou today as a part of the foundation day celebration which began on September 11 last.
Tree plantation drives at places across the State with the theme "Langhallasi Kangleipak" and blood donation camps were held as a part of the week-long foundation day celebration of SUK.
