The Women Action for Development (WAD)  has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl (3 and half years old) at a  village in Moreh on September 15.
A press release issued by  WAD secretary, M Sobita claimed that they received the information from reliable sources and local newspapers that the minor was sexually assaulted by a juvenile from the same locality.
The incident took place at around 5.30 pm and reported to Moreh PHC at around 6.30 pm with serious bleeding, she said adding that the PHC Moreh referred the minor girl to RIMS at midnight of the same day after providing normal medication.
Saying that the doctor reported the police about the incident and FIR has been lodged by the Moreh Police Station, she added that the accused is still at large.
Further claiming that the adoptive mother refused to disclose the details of the accused and the case has been settled with Rs.3.50 lakh under customary law, Sobita asserted that it is very unfortunate for the future generation of Manipur if the report is true.
"We learned that there are many cases of such heinous crime committed against women and children settled with a pig, buffalo etc offering and failed to be reported, especially from the hill districts, " she stated.
She asked the family, community and village chiefs to hand over the accused to police without delay.
"WAD with serious concern appeals to all the civil society organizations, tribe unions, student bodies, religious institutions in Moreh to extend support to the police in arresting the accused," she added.
She also asked the authority concerned to arrest the accused within 2 months.
