Don Bosco College Maram to receive NSS National Award

Senapati, Sep 20: The NSS unit of Don Bosco College Maram, Senapati District has been selected for the National Service Scheme (NSS) Award for 2018-19 under Programme Officer/NSS Unit Category.
Sister Sweta William Parmar, programme officer of NSS unit-1 will receive this award on a virtual platform from the President Ram Nath Kovind.
The award distribution ceremony will be held virtually at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on September 24.

Sister Sweta presently serves as Assistant Professor at Don Bosco College Maram with additional responsibility as NSS Programme Officer.
True to the motto of NSS: ‘Not me but you’, she gave her best in helping the downtrodden and needy in the adopted village of Ramlung. Supported by the Principal of the College, Fr (Dr) KO Sebastian, she volunteered in building and repairing public toilets, water tanks as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
As an active NSS Programme Officer, Sweta William has conducted literacy programmes and planted 19,900 tree saplings in the village.
She is also a registered organ donor and has donated eight times. She also engaged herself in transforming the nearby villages through cleanliness drives, health-immunisation programmes, HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, social awareness rallies, adult literacy programmes and malaria eradication programmes among others.
Sweta has helped the local community by constructing public toilets, urinals, waiting sheds, drainages, compost pits and water ponds.
She has created durable assets worth Rs 10, 42,760.
Her volunteers have also made around 300 dustbins from tins and bamboos, promoting the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Sweta has also extensively propagated the usage of biodegradable dustbins made of bamboo. She also undertook a massive fund-raising campaign in the aftermath of the Kerala floods.
The NSS unit under leadership was awarded as the best unit of Manipur in 2015 and Sweta was awarded as the best NSS Programme Officer. She has bagged 3 National Awards namely, SBSI 2018, SBSI 2019 and Best Coordinator of Red Ribbon Club.
She had also participated in a majority of the National, regional and State level programmes organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs.
