IMPHAL, Sep 20
The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has condemned the arrest of Apunba Ireipakki Sinpanglup (AIMS) volunteers by the authority on September 18.
A press release issued by MUSU said that intimidating students' community at this point of time is rather unfortunate, considering that UG and PG examinations are going on.
Since past, students' leaders who launched democratic protests against Government misconduct have been targeted, tortured by the authorities and the people in power, it said adding that such cruelty is executed even today.
The statement demanded the State Government release the arrested AIMS volunteers "unconditionally" at the earliest.
DESAM
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) also asked the State Government and authorities concerned to release the arrested AIMS volunteers at the earliest.
Failing to heed the demand will invite agitation, cautioned DESAM in a statement.
Arresting students' leaders who demanded the State Government to book unscrupulous officials of the Engineering Wing, Education Department is not logical as they hadn't demolished any properties, DESAM added.
DESAM also said that 'protecting' corrupt officials and arresting people who protested against them instead is very unfortunate.
The student's body also asked the Government to expedite probing of the case so that corrupt officials can be punished soon as per the law of the land.
On the other hand, Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) staged a sit-in protest at the complex of Manipur University, demanding the Chief Engineer of the Engineering Wing to resign.
It may be mentioned that AIMS locked the office of the Education Engineering Wing, alleging irregularities in building construction projects at DM University and Engineering College, Heirok, recently.
