Two political parties in Mizoram to merge

AIZAWL, Sep 20 :  Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) and People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) have decided to merge soon. The former is a 45 years old party while the latter was a corruption watchdog which became a political party not long ago.
According to sources, leaders of both the parties held several rounds of meetings and agreed to merge.The sources also said all formalities were already done. The merger agreement is likely to be inked in the next few days’ time.
A separate source also said both the parties are likely to meet on September 21. “May be we may formally merge on that day,” the source added.
On being asked about the nomenclature of the party after the merger, the source said they will decide a new nomenclature on the day they formalize the merger.
MPC was formed in 1975 by former Mizoram chief minister Brigadier T. Sailo. It is a party converted from the Human Rights Committee. The earliest name of the party is People's Conference.
