India's culture incomplete sans NE : Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that North Eastern culture is the jewel of Indian culture and without North East, India and Indian culture are incomplete.
"Without the North East, India and Indian culture are incomplete. Indian culture can`t be completely imagined until the North Eastern culture meets that of India because the North Eastern culture is the jewel of Indian culture," the Home Minister said while inaugurating Destination North East 2020 fest via video conferencing.
Shah said that the Modi Government is committed to the development of North Eastern States.
"Various pending issues were resolved by the Modi Government. Manipur blockade, Bangladesh land boundary agreement, Bru agreement, Bodo agreement, the surrender of 644 cadres of eight extreme groups with their weapons are some of the examples of the work done by the Modi Government. This can only be done when the Government understands their problems and tries to solve them. The Modi Government is committed to the development of North Eastern States," he said.
"As Home Minister, I would like to tell all CMs and people of the North East that remaining problems will be resolved before 2024. We want to make North East a hub of IT, organic farming and education. I hope, we will work together for the better future of the States and its people," he added.
Chief Ministers of the North East States joined the inauguration event via video conferencing.
Destination North East, a four-day virtual event, started from today. Owing to the current situation, the festival is being held virtually, making it accessible to everyone who`s interested in being a part of the merriment.
The event is being attended by prominent personalities of various States who have excelled in their fields. The event will take place between September 27 and September 30.
The inaugural event was also graced by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Statefor Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), the Chief Ministers of the North Eastern States, Dr Inderjit Singh, Secretary DoNER, Members NEC Prof Biman Kumar Dutta and Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, K Moses Chalai, Secretary NEC and others.
Earlier setting the tone with the theme song “This is the land and its people” by Shillong band “Summer Salt”, the inaugural programme also witnessed choir presentations by Voice of Nagaland & Cardinal Choir from Mizoram besides an audio visual presentation on the tourism themes and cultural mosaic of North East India.
While delivering the welcome address, Secretary NEC K Moses Chalai said that even under difficult circumstances, it was decided to go ahead with the programme with the belief that the event will spark a renewal in the tourism sector of the NE Region.
The Secretary DoNER informed that previously ‘Destination North East’ used to be held in different places to exchange culture & heritage of NER with the rest of India, but the virtual event held this year is expected to provide an even wider coverage.
He mentioned the different important tourism destinations which NER has to offer and extended a welcome for all to experience their beauty in the post pandemic days ahead.
Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State DoNER explained that the main aim behind the Destination North East event is to bring the rest of India closer to the North Eastern region.
He indicated that with its rich handloom and handicraft traditions, cultural heritage and high literacy rate, the North East has much to offer and was optimistic that, when the Corona pandemic eases, tourists who were earlier holidaying in Europe would flock to the North East, bring prosperity, thereby unlocking the potential of the region so that it becomes the new engine of growth for the country, as envisaged by the Prime Minister of India.
