Shillong, Sep 6: Meghalaya registered 88 more cases of COVID-19 and the demise of an elderly person on Sunday, who tested positive for the virus, taking the total COVID-19 active cases to 1,433 and the death toll to 16.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr said the deceased from Pynthorumkhrah was admitted at Nazareth Hospital at 10.30 am. “The patient was suffering from diabetes mellitus with myocardial infarction with COVID-19 and expired at 1.15 pm,” he said.
Dr Warr informed that of the 88 new cases, 39 which include 27 civilians and 12 armed and paramilitary forces (A/FP) were detected from West Garo Hills, 35 from East Khasi Hills that include 20 civilians and 15 A/FP, 4 each from South and North Garo Hills, 3 from East Jaintia Hills and 1 each from Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills and South West Garo Hills.
The total number of recoveries in the State has increased to 1,556 after 29 more patients recovered from the viral infection - of which 11 A/FP from South Garo Hills, 10 from West Garo Hills, that include 6 A/FP and 4 civilians, while East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi had 4 patients each recovering from COVID-19.
A total of 3,005 positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the State, of which 1,433 are active and 16 have died due to the disease.
Of the total active cases of COVID-19, East Khasi Hills has the highest number of positive cases at 945 (764 civilians and 181 A/PF), followed by West Garo Hills with 174 cases, 177 in Ri Bhoi, 97 in East Garo Hills, 31 in West Khasi Hills, 28 in East Jaintia Hills, 15 in South Garo Hills, 12 in North Garo Hills, 9 in West Jaintia Hills, 4 in South West Garo Hills and 1 in South West Khasi Hills.
