More of a question when, not should Seeking opinions

Chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), Dr L Mahendra Singh has made it clear. The decision on examinations to be conducted by the Council will be taken by the Government based on the feedbacks submitted by the Principals of both private and Government schools. In short the decision on whether when and how to hold the Class XII examinations under COHSEM will be taken by the State Government after feedbacks from the respective school Principals are received. There should not be too much of a dilemma on whether the Class XII examinations will be held or not, for State Boards across the country have already decided that the Class XII and Class X examinations will indeed be conducted. It is just that the BJP led Government at Imphal has so far not yet made an official statement on this. Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has already gone on record to announce that the Class X and Class XII examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be held from May 4 to June 10 and has even gone to the extent of stating that results will be declared by July 15. More than enough indication that the CBSE has done its homework well, despite the global pandemic. Closer home, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, at the turn of the new year, announced that the Class X exams will start from May 11 while that of Class XII will start from May 12.   Exams deferred due to the global pandemic, but going to be held nevertheless with official announcements to boot and clearly here are instances of different arms of the Government doing their bit to ensure that school examinations of the children are not affected, though there are still questions on whether the children have actually learnt much from the online classes or not.
It is not yet clear whether opinion from the different school Principals/Management/Teachers have been sought on when the Class XII examinations may be held, but already the stand of COHSEM has been spelt out clearly. On the other hand, if a formal channel has not yet been opened to seek the opinions of the school Principals, then when it will be sought ? The opinion may at best be understood in the context of ‘when would be the best time for the examinations to be held.’ It must already be clear to COHSEM and the different school Principals and the managements, that many other States have announced the date of the examinations and hence students appearing for the Class XII examinations here will be in competition with their counterparts from different parts of the country. Many would be looking to continue their studies in different parts of the country after their Class XII examinations and for those in Science and Commerce streams many would be preparing for NEET, JEE and the other competitive examinations such as BBA to get into professional courses and a delay in holding the examinations and announcing the results can negatively impact on the prospect of their further studies. All these facts will have to be kept in mind when one starts talking about the Class XII examinations. At the moment, not much is being heard about the Class X examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM), but this question will need to be addressed sooner than later. Afterall, Covid or not, life has to go on.
