IMPHAL, Jan 13 : Chandi-garh proved too strong for Manipur as they notched up an emphatic 110-run victory in their second plate group match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket Tournament-2021 in Chennai today.
This is despite a good show from Thokchom Kishan, a staff of The Sangai Express who impressed with both bat and ball (scoring 22 runs off 24 balls and bagging one wicket).
Electing to bat first,  Chandigarh posted a huge total of 178/5 and restricted Manipur to 68/8 for the big win.
Shivam Bhambri shone with a half century (56 off 39 balls) after Manan Vohra initial flourish (39 off 29 balls) despite Manipur bowlers' effort to gain control.
Ankit Kaushik also played well contributing 38 runs before he succumbed to Bishorjit Konthoujam who led the bowling attack for Manipur today.
Bishorjit also bowled out Jaskaran who was on 16 off 6 balls. Ajay Lamabam and Langlonyamba Meitankeisha-ngbam also picked up a wicket each in this innings.
The chase for Manipur began on a disastrous note with Chandigarh bowlers striking the right line and length and sending them back regularly.
Chandigarh's Bipul Sharma sent Prafullomani packing for naught first and then removed Karnajit for 7 to do the early damage.
Narsingh Yadav was also out lbw to Jaskaran on duck before Nitesh Sedai (6), Rex Rajkumar (2) and Langlon-yamba Meitankeishangbam (6) fell cheaply to Gurinder Singh's bowling.
The only other notable contributor for Manipur was  L Kishan Singha (20 not out).
Manipur will face Aruna-chal Pradesh next on Jan 15.
