1st Republic Day Invitational Football Tournament begins

KANGPOKPI, Jan 13: The 1st Republic Day Invitational Football Tournament organized by COB Motbung, 38 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector Assam Rifles in collaboration with Motbung Youth Club kicked off today LS playground, Motbung model village.
Saitu AC MLA, Ngamthang  Haokip, who is also the Political Advisor to CM graced the occasion as chief guest who lauded the 38 Assam Rifles and Motbung Youth Club for organizing such sporting event to inculcate the spirit of games and sports especially among the youths in Motbung area.
The tournament has been organized as part of the 72nd Republic Day celebration of the Union of India.
A total of 27 teams from villages in and around Motbung are participating in the tournament which is schedule to culminate on January 29.
Earlier, COB Motbung 38 AR, Motbung Youth Club and Thadou Students' Association spearheaded the renovation and maintenance work of the football ground including mechanical cleaning of drainage of the ground and levelling of the playground through road roller.
Various sports items were presented to Motbung Youth Club during the inaugural ceremony by the Assam Rifles.
