Four cops held for robbery

IMPHAL, Jan 14: Four police personnel have been arrested in connection with the robbery of jewellery and cash worth Rs nine lakh from some people who were coming to Imphal Airport.
After a case was registered at Singjamei police station in connection with the robbery which took place in the afternoon of January 10, police apprehended one accused yesterday morning.
Three other accused were also pulled up subsequently.
The arrested accused have been identified as Tongbram Dhanabir (32) of Govindagram, Sapam Thangsowang (32) of Huidrom Makha Leikai, Nameirakpam Sanjoy (30) of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai  and Sagolsem Sandhyarani (42) of Wangoi Bazar.
All four of them are police Constables posted at the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) police station.
They have been remanded to police custody for six days after they were produced at the Court of CJM, Imphal West today.
Further, all of them have been placed under suspension in accordance with separate orders issued by the Imphal West SP and the NAB SP.
Two women and a man were coming to Imphal from Moreh in a van (Maruti Eeco) on January 10.
They were halted and robbed of gold jewellery and cash by the four individuals who identified themselves as police personnel near the airport. According to a complaint lodged with police by the victims, they were followed by the NAB Constables in a car (Maruti Alto) from Lilong.
