Govt to launch helpline number for senior citizens soon

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a dedicated helpline number for senior citizens was signed between Social Welfare Department, National Institute of Social Defense, Government of India and Alankit Assignments Limited, New Delhi in the presence of Minister for Social Welfare Henry Okram at his official residence at Babupara Imphal today.
Addressing the media, Henry Okram said that the toll-free National Helpline for senior citizens will be launched for the State under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The helpline aims at providing grievance redressal mechanisms for the senior citizens, information on Government schemes and welfare programmes besides providing emotional support so as to help them age gracefully, he added. Henry Okram assured that the toll free helpline number is expected to be launched in February.
Director (Social Welfare) Ng Uttam Singh signed the tripartite MoU on behalf of the State Government and Sanjay Bhat, Assistant Vice President, Alankit Assignments Limited, New Delhi signed on behalf of the service provider. Commissioner (Social Welfare) H Gyan Prakash, officials of Social Welfare Department were present.
