IMPHAL, Jan 14: The Committee on Protection and Preservation of the Historical Rights of Koubru and Thangching Hill Ranges (CPKT) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to protect the whole of the Koubru and Thangjing/Thangching hill ranges.
Members of the committee met the Chief Minister today and submitted the memorandum, said a statement of the CPKT.
While the Government had issued an order earlier on November 26 last protecting some portions of Ibudhou Thangjing/Thangching hill and Koubru hill under Manipur Ancient and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976 in the interest of the public, there are many sites of worship and historical importance that have been left out and need protection.
Many sites of historical importance and places of worship are scattered all over the hills’ ranges and among them there are 13 notable sites/houses of worship on Koubru, 13 sites/houses of worship and 9 historical sites on Thangjing/Thangching, said CPKT.
The Govt should place the entire Koubru and Thangjing/Thangching hill ranges under the Place of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991 and protect them in the interest of the State and her people, added the CPKT in the memorandum.
