CADA continues sit-in protest

Expressing the need for a retrial at a higher Court following the recent acquittal of former ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou, the Pangei Yangdong Youth Development Association and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) Unit along with women vendors of Pangei Keithel jointly organised a sit in protest at Pangei in Imphal East district, today.
Addressing the gathering, president of CADA Hijam Priyokumar stated that the people of the State are highly disappointed with the acquittal of Lhukhosei Zou former Chandel ADC.
He also expressed his anguish over the State Government's uninspiring response towards the democratic protests and agitation carried out across the State by different CSOs, Meira Paibi associations and other local clubs.
Hijam Priyokumar further appealed to the State Government to take the case to a higher Court and award befitting punishment to those involved in the drug case.
Another sit in protest was held today at Nongchup Sanjenbam in Imphal West district by volunteers of Sanjenbam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Social Youth's Organisation, Sanjenbam and CADA Unit.
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', 'award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the protest.
Voicing the same demands, memoranda were also submitted by representatives of All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Thoubal Ima, AMKIL, Tammi Chingmi, THANIL, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Apunba Nupi Lup, (ANUL) Bishnupur, Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL), Ireipak Enaat Chanura Loinasillon (ECHAL) and Meira Paibi, led by Nupi Samaj president Th Ramani to Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh; Keishamthong AC MLA L Jayantakumar Singh and Kshetrigao AC MLA Nahakpam Indrajit.
