IMPHAL, Jan 14
The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur has busted an illegal blood trade racket at RIMS Hospital.
The volunteers of the student body rounded up four persons along with 2 technicians and 2 attendants of Blood Bank, RIMS Hospital.
For a unit of blood, they charge about Rs 4,500 from patient parties and split the amount among themselves-Rs 3,000 for the hospital staff and Rs 1,500 for agents, claimed DESAM in a statement yesterday.
Appealing people to report such cases to DESAM, it urged the hospital authority to take appropriate actions against the agents and the staff involved in the racket.
The student body has held many voluntary blood donation camps and so far, it has donated more than 500 units of blood through its mega blood donation campaign “Maheiroi Khunai Amadi Leibak Meeyamgidamak Kathoklaba Ee”, it added.
