By Our Staff Reporter
IMPHAL, Jan 15: Chief Minister N Biren assured that two police stations would be opened at Kangpat and Nambashi within Kamjong district.
With Chief Minister N Biren and many of his Cabinet Ministers, the State Government held the first Go to Hills campaign of 2021 at Kamjong district headquarters today.
Speaking at the gathering, Biren said that his Government has been working for uniform development of both the hills and the valley since it was established in 2017.
“We felt elated when we saw people’s support at all the places we visited so far. We feel equally grateful to the people of Kamjong for the warm reception they have given us today”, Biren said.
Claiming that a Cabinet meeting scheduled earlier at Kamjong district headquarters was aborted as it coincided with a big State/National function, the Chief Minister regretted for the same.
Even as the State Government has been working hard to bring uniform development across the State, hill areas need far more because of the topography. It is for this very reason that there is a separate Hill Area Development Fund, Biren said.
Taking due note of the report that there is no shortage of water in Kamjong, Biren hailed PHE Minister L Dikho. He said that the Government would consider rewarding the engineers who made sure that the people of Kamjong do not face any water shortage, either on January 26 or August 15.
Talking about the health cards distributed today, the Chief Minister pointed out that the cards would entitle all beneficiaries to free treatment in any hospital of the State for up to Rs two lakh.
Taking due note of the demand for establishment of police stations at border areas as mentioned in several memorandums submitted to him today, Biren remarked that the demand is quite reasonable and assured that two police stations would be definitely opened at Kangpat and Nambashi.
The demand for upgrading Kamjong High School to the level of a higher secondary school would also be considered. Moreover, as envisaged by the New Education Policy, the State Government would study the feasibility of opening a college at Kamjong, Biren said.
Construction of Nambisha Primary Health Sub-Centre would begin soon.
Assuring that the Government would definitely bring Central Bank of India as well as Punjab and Sind Bank to Kamjong, Biren said that the same initiative demands people’s support.
Saying that he would urge the firm/agency concerned to construct a women’s market at Kamjong within April, the Chief Minister informed that necessary fund has been already sanctioned for construction of a working women’s hostel at the district headquarters.
Other pending construction works would be reviewed every week so that they are completed by the end of March, he said.
Asserting that there should be mutual respect and a strong bond of fraternity among the hill people and plain people, Biren appealed to the masses to support and bless his Government.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar asserted that certain parameters such as consumption of power, quality of drinking water, roads and communication infrastructure, health care facilities, education infrastructure etc should be studied to determine whether a region is developed or backward.
He then highlighted the need for supporting one another so as to bring collective development in the State.
In the course of the event, wheelchairs were distributed to handicapped persons, walking sticks, hearing aid and pension to aged people under the CMST.
Further, Horticulture Department, Social Welfare Department and many other departments distributed cards to beneficiaries of several schemes.
Foundation stones for different projects including construction of roads, bridges, power sub-station etc were also laid as part of the Go to Hills campaign.
The campaign culminated with a Cabinet meeting.
Apart from the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, the Go to Hills campaign was attended by Works Minister Th Biswajit, YAS Minister Letpao Haokip, PHE Minister Loshi Dikho, Forest & Environment Minister Awangbow Newmai, Education Minister S Rajen, Tribal Affairs Minister Vungzagin Valte, Tourism Minister O Lukhoi, MAHUD Minister Okram Henry, CAF&PD Minister Th Satyabrata, HAC Chairman K Leishiyo, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar and DGP LM Khaute.
