90-year old succumbs to COVID-19

IMPHAL, Jan 16: After a few days without any Covid related deaths, one 90-year-old man succumbed to COVID-19 on the day of the launch of the ‘largest’ vaccination drive, taking the death toll to 366.
The 90-year-old man belonged to Imphal West district and he died at Raj Medicity.
The number of daily infections however remain low with only 24 persons testing positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours while as many as 79 COVID-19 positive people recovered from the disease.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 28,835 while the number of active cases is 380.
28,089 persons have recovered from the disease so far and the recovery rate now stands at 97.41 percent.
Meanwhile, a report of the Government COVID-19 Common Control Room issued by Additional Director Health, Dr Khoirom Sashee-kumar Mangang informed that the 24 persons who tested positive for Covid hail from Thoubal (11), Imphal West (6), Tameng-long (3), Kangpokpi (2), Imphal East (1) and Chandel (1).
They tested positive for COVID-19 at testing facilities at Thoubal (11), JNIMS (3), RIMS (2), Babina Diagnostics (2), Raj Medicity (1), Kangpokpi (1) and Tamenglong (3).
On the other hand, 79 COVID-19 positive people who have been discharged during in the last 24 hours include 59 under home isolation. The remaining have been discharged from COVID-19 Care Centres opened at LKK (6), Lanva (3), JNIMS (3), SHRI (5), RIMS (2) and PR School Kakching (1).
The cumulative number of positive cases is 28,835 including 25,434 civilians and 3,401 Central security personnel.
The total number of recovered cases is 28,089 including 24,716 civilians and 3,373 Central security personnel.
The number of active cases is 380 including 356 civilians and 24 Central security personnel, said the report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room.
Even though COVID-19 vaccination began today in the State, authorities have been asking all the people to abide by COVID SOP.
