IMPHAL, Jan 16: The Government must not recruit teachers of other subjects before expediting the pro-cess of recruitment of Thang-Ta teachers first, said KIMACS (Kanglei Indi-genous Martial Arts and Cultural Society) today.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club,   KIMACS president  Ning-thoujam Ajit said the body is boycotting all undergoing recruitment processes of teachers until the Government and the authorities concerned addresses their demand.
Thang-Ta as a discipline was included in the syllabi prescribed for Classes IX and X  by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur. KIMACS had submitted memoranda to formulate necessary rules and regulations to recruit the required teachers for the discipline, he said.
Earlier, the former Education Minister had assured KIMCAS to address its demand, however the matter has not been tabled in the State Cabinet meetings till today. While the Government is ignoring and neglecting KIMACS and Thang-Ta as a subject, it (Government) is processing recruitment of teachers for other  subjects. This is discouraging and unfortunate, he said.
The Government should table KIMACS’ demand and discuss it in a Cabinet meeting within January, N Ajit said, adding the body has decided to boycott all other recruitment processes in the meantime.
KIMACS has decided to hold democratic and peaceful protests until the end of January but it will launch intense agitation from February if the Government fails to discuss the demand and address the issue by January end, he said.
According to Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Manipuri martial art is called Thang-Ta. It is dedicated to fighting skill and worship. The Meitei creation of Thang-Ta goes back to antiquity.
