Disaster

Disaster. A big disaster, spread around
The big river in the city broke
Roaring, souring the waves poured
Drowning all the greens underneath
Flooding everything eyes can see
All now standing on a huge lake
Even the beds in the small room
Of the house made of mud and wood
How they must have suffered?
As their food dissolved away
What they must have felt?
As the level rises each passing day

I can use complex adjectives
To describe the time and sufferings
But words can't fathom how it was.
We can read about it in history books
And can never know what it was
But if I go in closer and deeper
And share their time and space
I can see intricacies, never recorded
I can hear the jokes that were made
The laughter that echoed through
Children making boats, acting out
I can see them gathering together
Catching fish for the night's meal
From the water enveloping the ground
Exclaiming at each others catch
Never letting go of their hope
Finding happiness in every little thing
Being human, as can ever be.
Even in the time of Tragedy.
